Additional resources
We don't use Mimecast, but ran into the same issue of emails flagged private not visible on delegated/shared mailboxes. Our work around was to log into our terminal server as the delegated/shared mail box AD account and open up Outlook. There you can specifically allow Private emails. Whether on a terminal server or local workstation, the key is to log into the machine as the shared account. For some reason you can't do this in OWA.
In Outlook, go to File --> Account Settings --> Delegate Access. There, add the individuals who need to see the private emails. They will probably already be listed, so check the Permissions section, too. It's a pain, but it's the only way we've found to make private flagged emails visible in shared mailboxes.
